MRIA ALBERTA 2008 END OF SEASON EVENT

The Art of Living: How a Thousand Voices Built One Cultural Plan

Two years ago, Edmonton City Council charged the Edmonton Arts Council with the responsibility of creating a ten-year art and heritage plan for Edmonton.

Not wanting to develop a “template” document, the group set about building a cultural plan for Edmonton by Edmontonians. This required a consultative and research-based approach ensuring that the plan was built from the ground up -- reflecting the values, viewpoints and diverse voices of the arts and heritage communities.

John and Catrin will address the process behind the plan -- focusing on the role that data gathering, relationship building, targeted conversations and public consultation played in building a ten-year blueprint for arts and heritage in Edmonton.
