THE B2B DIVISION INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR SERIES PRESENTS:
Do SMEs Benefit from Social Networking?
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD, 2010, 1 PM EST
Social networking has exploded as a form of interactive communications, transforming the delivery and structure of information and putting the once capital-intensive role of broadcasting within reach of individuals. Its impact on personal communications and entertainment has been obvious, as has its effects on the businesses directly connected to these activities. Less is known, however, on how traditional SMEs have actively embraced these forms of networking and whether adoption has led to stronger business performance.
Ted Mallett at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) will be discussing the findings of an analysis of 2000 business owners from surveys conducted in 2009. The study was aimed at testing the perspectives of the book ‘Groundswell’, by Li and Bernoff. Mallett’s findings suggest that social networking may indeed be here to stay, but some approaches work much better than others. In other words, there is no generalizable or automatic link to success apparent for small businesses.
Speaker:
Ted Mallett, Vice President and Chief Economist, Canadian Federation of Independent Business
Ted Mallett is responsible for CFIB’s policy research information gathering and membership survey activities. His experience covers a wide range of policy issues including: tax policy, local government, the environment, banking and telecommunications.
CFIB bases its policy positions on the opinions of its 100,000 small and medium-sized business members. Research and surveys, therefore, represent an extensive part of the Federation’s activities. Approximately 2,000 businesses are surveyed each week by CFIB representatives. The data gathered form the basis to CFIB’s research studies, reports and submissions to government on small business issues.
Mr. Mallett joined the Federation in 1988. Before joining CFIB, he was with Woods Gordon management consultants (now Ernst and Young) in their Marketing and Economics Group, specializing in industrial economic analyses and forecasting.
