It is often said that the only poll that matters is the one on election
day. Nonetheless, there was a tremendous amount of polling done before,
during and now after the election. After the 2004 election there was considerable
commentary on the accuracy of the polls. The CBC eschewed horse race numbers
and polls in general. This time, the media commented on polls daily, yet
we are still left with the same burning questions.
NIK NANOS
Mr. Nanos is the President of SES Research, one of Canada's leading
public opinion research firms. He is the official pollster for CPAC, Canada's
Political Channel and also the Osprey Media Group - a chain of 51 newspapers
in Ontario. Starting in the spring of 2006, he will be the National President-elect
of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association. Polls conducted
by SES Research and Nik's analysis have appeared in virtual all of Canada's
major media outlets. They have also appeared in the Wall Street Journal,
USA Today and The Guardian Newspaper in the United Kingdom. For the 2006
Federal Election, the CPAC-SES final election poll was within one-tenth
of one percentage point for the four major parties.
DIMITRI PANTAZOPOULOS
Founder and President of Praxicus Public Strategies. A native of Ottawa,
Mr. Pantazopoulos has spent his career in political communications, and
strategy development, working in the areas of public opinion research, party
policy development, and reputation and crisis management campaigns. Mr.
Pantazopoulos' most notable current client is the Conservative Party of
Canada and its leader Stephen Harper. He has been providing public opinion
research and advice to Mr. Harper since 2002, and was the Conservative Party's
pollster in the 2004 federal election campaign.
LARRY WELSH
President of Lifeline Communications Group Inc., Mr. Welsh has seen
several sides of politics, business and government around Ottawa. He has
worked in government relations and communications in the private sector
since 1997, served as press secretary to former Reform Party leader Preston
Manning, and was chief economics writer at the Ottawa bureau of Canadian
Press. Mr. Welsh started his career in journalism at The Standard in his
hometown of St. Catharines, Ont., before moving on as a financial journalist
at Reuters News Agency and the Toronto Star. Lifeline Communications has
provided strategic advice and media analysis services to public and private
clients since 1987.

Research at TNS Canadian Facts. He has a Ph.D. in political science from
the University of British Columbia, and has taught undergraduate and graduate
