Nomination Period For 2006-07 Board of Directors Extended Until January 27
By Brendan Wycks, Executive Director
At a recent MRIA Nominating Committee meeting, concern
was expressed that the December 23 deadline for nominations for the 2006-07
MRIA Board of Directors fell inconveniently close to Christmas and the Holiday
Season period when many businesses are closed.
In the interests of ensuring as full a slate of nominees
as possible for all member constituencies represented on the Board, the
Nominating Committee has therefore decided to extend the nomination deadline
until Friday, January 27, and to encourage those interested in serving on
the National Board to submit their nomination by that final deadline.
During the Nomination Period extension, the Nominating
Committee will be accepting nominations for each of the Board positions
outlined on the MRIA
web site, where a Board Nomination Form is also available. Each nominee's
form must be (i) signed by three other members-in-good-standing of the Association
who are not members of the Nominating Committee; and (ii) signed by the
nominee, to indicate acceptance of the nomination. The deadline for submission
of completed Nomination Forms is Friday, January 27, 2006 at 5 p.m. Eastern
Standard Time.
In accordance with MRIA's Bylaws, an election for the Association's
2006-07 National Board of Directors will then take place via an electronic
or regular mail secret ballot process, from January 31 to February 17, 2006.
The new Board of Directors will take office in conjunction with the Association's
Annual General Meeting on March 31, 2006 in Toronto.

MONTREAL-BASED BROKER READY TO MEET
INSURANCE NEEDS OF MRIA MEMBERS IN QUEBEC
The new MRIA Member Insurance Programs launched in late
2005 are proving to be very popular among members, judging by the volume
of inquiry calls and the number of quotes and insurance policies already
issued by LMS PROLINK, the Association's insurance broker.
The comprehensive coverage and value-for-money offered
by the Member Insurance Programs are perceived as very valuable by our members.
In many cases, the annual premium savings available through our group program,
as compared to coverage and pricing available in the non-group marketplace,
can more than pay for the cost of membership in the Association.
And in order to better serve our Quebec-based members in
both official languages, LMS PROLINK has partnered with Dale Parizeau LM.,
a Montreal-based full service financial services firm. Over the past 20
years, Dale Parizeau LM has developed expertise in designing insurance programs
for Associations and other groups in Quebec.
Be assured that both LMS PROLINK (all parts of Canada except
Quebec) and Dale Parizeau LM (if you reside in Quebec) are both committed
to delivering first-rate customer service, and to providing you with comprehensive
coverage, which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of market
and survey research industry participants, at sharply reduced premium levels.
Professional Liability/Errors & Omissions, Comprehensive General Liability/Office
Package, Group Benefits Plan, and Home and Automobile insurance are available
under the MRIA Member Insurance Programs.

REMINDER -- 2006 MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL DEADLINE IS JANUARY 31
By Ellie Sykes, VP, Membership
The deadline for the renewing your MRIA membership for
2006 is coming up soon: January 31.
(However, due to the recent MRIA Member Insurance Program
negotiations that have led to the addition of a Quebec-based insurance broker,
Dale Parizeau LM, as a service provider for our Quebec-based members, the
mailing of membership renewal notices to members with a French language
preference was delayed somewhat, but has been completed this week. The renewal
deadline for French language-preferred members has therefore been adjusted,
as specified in the cover letter included to their renewal packages.)
To avoid interruption of member services and benefits,
please do not wait until the last minute to complete and return your Membership
Renewal Form and dues payment.
In renewing your MRIA membership, you will continue to
be eligible for a comprehensive portfolio of member benefits, including
the following:
- Deep premium savings via the MRIA Member Insurance Programs
which, in many cases, will more than cover the cost of your membership
dues;
- Eligibility to maintain or pursue the coveted Certified
Marketing Research Professional (CMRP) designation;
- Savings on Education and Professional Development courses
through MRIA's School of Marketing Research;
- Career and business development support through the Members
Only section of the MRIA Web site (job postings and RFPs);
- Eligibility to advertise/list in the prized Research
Buyer's Guide and to be included in the 2006 Membership Directory (Corporate
members only); and
- Preferred rates for the Ascent 2006 Conference and Tradeshow
in Calgary in May 2006, and for local education and networking events through
MRIA's Chapters across Canada.
And if your company has or will have more than one member
of our Association, be sure to take advantage of our sliding scale discounts
for multiple members from the same organization. Visit the on-line membership
dues calculator at www.mria-arim.ca/grouprenewals
before January 31, to access the multiple member discounts available
if all members of the same organization are renewed on-line at the same
time, in one single session, via the MRIA Web site.
MRIA is committed to delivering even more value for your
membership dues in 2006. We thank you for your support and participation
in helping to make our Association a strong and vital force as a voluntary,
self-regulatory industry and professional Association, and the single authoritative
voice of the marketing, survey and public opinion research and business
intelligence industry in Canada.

Calling all knowledge workers!
By Cam Davis, Editor-in-Chief, CJMR
The editorial board debated whether to continue to call
the CJMR a "journal" because such a descriptor might intimidate
potential authors. Journals serve ivory tower institutions very well and
there has to be a vehicle in which professors have to publish.
Notwithstanding, the Canadian "Journal"
of Marketing Research is mandated to serve practitioners first and foremost.
To that end, I am inviting research practitioners to submit articles by
February 28, 2006. If you want to submit an outline beforehand, I would
be pleased to respond. If you have recently given a PowerPoint presentation
at a conference and would like to write an article based on the slides,
send me the slides for feedback. Cam Davis, editor, cdav@pollara.ca.

Share your expertise and knowledge... VUE is considering
articles on a wide range of topics for our March 2006 edition. The article submission deadline is January 20th, 2006.
