Effective & Efficient Secondary
Research
Presented by: Maggie Weaver
Secondary information is a key resource in B2B market research,
particularly when entering unfamiliar markets. But its advantages - easily
available, and cheaper to collect than primary data - can also lead to disadvantages:
far too much, and possibly of dubious quality. Maggie Weaver will discuss
the advantages and disadvantages, and outline steps to focus quickly on
the most important sources, and how to evaluate material from a source that
is new to you. For more information and to register, visit
the B2B website.

Calling all knowledge workers!
By Cam Davis, Editor-in-Chief, CJMR
The editorial board debated whether to continue to call
the CJMR a "journal" because such a descriptor might intimidate
potential authors. Journals serve ivory tower institutions very well and
there has to be a vehicle in which professors have to publish.
Notwithstanding, the Canadian "Journal"
of Marketing Research is mandated to serve practitioners first and foremost.
To that end, I am inviting research practitioners to submit articles by
February 28, 2006. If you want to submit an outline beforehand, I would
be pleased to respond. If you have recently given a PowerPoint presentation
at a conference and would like to write an article based on the slides,
send me the slides for feedback. Cam Davis, editor, cdav@pollara.ca.
Share the knowledge!

will discuss how marketing plans get implemented by the marketing function, the sales function and other functions as well.
Without involving other functions in research design and data collection, marketing efforts have a higher chance of failure due to lack of ownership by other functions.
Find out how to avoid that in order to get maximum impact from your research. Dr. Sirsi's concept is rapidly becoming a benchmark for corporations world-wide.

Cam Davis on Marketing Research on the Internet course
in Calgary March 10:
"I thoroughly enjoyed teaching the MRIA Marketing
Research on the Internet course in Calgary. My presentation dramatically
changes each year as the Internet morphs into new directions. I find many
of the "students" have some prior knowledge of web surveys and
now they are asking about best practices and procedures. Internet panels
are the hot topic along with the types of recruitment. While there is a
lot of knowledge transfer within the classroom one student revealed
in an evaluation, "it was still fun." Every time I teach
this course, I learn about new Internet research techniques that are used,
some successfully. The networking and exchange of ideas is fundamental
to the course. Thanks to the Calgary chapter for promising a beautiful sunny
day and a great venue."
