MRIA QRD Webinar On Information Visualization:
Seeing is Understanding: The Art of Great Deliverables

Tuesday, Nov 22, 2011
2:15 to 3:15 PM EST

Did you know that 80% of your brain’s sensory processing capacity is dedicated to vision? In a world where we are all under pressure to make better decisions faster, visual communication remains an iceberg of largely untapped potential to accelerate and improve decision outcomes. Whether you are a marketing research or market intelligence practitioner who is already passionate about information visualization, someone who wants to begin using more visual approaches in client-facing communication, or someone who keeps hearing about information visualization and wants to know what all the fuss is about – this webinar is for you.

MRIA member Alli Marshall, President of Calgary-based Strix Insights and a sought-after expert on information visualization techniques, will present on why visualization is so important right now, cover basic principles of applying visualization, and address stumbling blocks that may be holding you back. She will work through several real-life research examples, to illustrate an approach that can be applied to all types of MR and MI deliverables.

Alli Marshall – President, Strix Insights

Alli Marshall cuts through the chaos of data noise and information overload to help her clients make better decisions.

She started her career in geology and geophysics, where she gained a strong grounding in artful analysis using data visualization. Next, Alli moved into business analyst roles where she was responsible for global market forecasts and corporate strategy. While drowning in overwhelming amounts of data, most of it lacking relevant intelligence, she started developing better, visual ways to navigate through it all.

These days, Alli works as an information visualization specialist consulting to corporate and government clients and helping them with collaborative visual decision-making approaches. With the aid of simple tools—such as markers and a whiteboard—and drawing on her years of experience in analyzing data, Alli helps her clients see and understand information so that they can make smart decisions.

She speaks regularly at business schools across Alberta and has been invited to speak to arts groups, technology incubators as well as national marketing organizations and the media.
