FROM THE FOUNDING PRESIDENT OF THE PROFESSIONAL MARKETING RESEARCH SOCIETY (PMRS): JOSEPH B. DOYLE

My! How you've grown, from the small group of people who used to meet monthly at the Ontario Club in Toronto.

My crusade then was to remind management that Marketing Research is a vital part of the management team, not just a facility that looks good on an organizational chart, dealing in numbers.

To make this happen, it was important to show what we could do, when becoming part of the marketing team.

Marketing research, as a profession, existed at that time, but had a relatively small group of users: the Soapers, the Food Companies, Automotives. As marketing operations in Canada began to grow, it was important that the image of research should grow with it. This was something that research had to do on its own. Imagination and creativity are gifts that provide the excellent fuel to make this happen.

This was the temptation for key people to join what was called PMRS. This process is still going on, with a fine group of people, practicing their skills.
