MRIA launches the world's first Charter
of Respondent Rights
October 3, 2006 - Today is a watershed day in the history of MRIA and our industry, and
we are pleased to share the exciting news with you.
At a Reception on Parliament Hill in Ottawa this evening, MRIA will launch
the world's first Charter of Respondent Rights. The Charter clearly articulates
to Canadians our industry's commitment to respect their time, their privacy,
and to honour the societal contribution they make by voicing their opinions.
The Charter launch reception will be attended by Members of Parliament,
Senators, members of their Parliament Hill staffs, members of the Government's
Public Opinion Research Directorate, research professionals from Government
ministries and departments, the MRIA national Board of Directors, Chapter
Presidents, the Ottawa Chapter Board, and other guests.
Over the course of the day, small groups of members of the MRIA Board
and Chapter Presidents have been meeting with 25 different MPs and Senators
who have responsibilities related to our industry's legislative issues.
We've been giving them a preview of the Charter, and talking about the
National Do Not Call Registry; plans for Anti-Spam legislation; the Federal
Accountability Act's provisions related to public opinion research; and
other issues.
The Charter lets Canadians know that we are serious about our commitment
to respecting their Rights as research project participants, and it will
enable them to better distinguish between legitimate research and fraudulent
selling-under-the-guise of research.
